Jeff Cross, ISSA media director, hosted the webinar alongside Martha Schmitt, ISSA Virtual Events Producer, and Sammy Hager, Cleanfax’s Associate Editor.
The topics of discussion included:
- The power of comprehensive documentation as a business owner
- The main downside to the expectation of highly-detailed documentation from customers
- How documentation and monitoring work hand-in-hand
- Ways to maximize your documentation efforts
- The effectiveness of keeping documentation in-house
- Technology to streamline documentation processes
- Personal stories and insights from the industry leaders and attendees
- Tips for restoration business owners looking to expand their services
- Resources for beginner restoration industry leaders
Some of the key takeaways from the webinar came in the form of highly valuable insights the panelists shared with attendees in response to questions and conversation starters.
When asked what makes a great documentation tool for restoration professionals, Bruce DeLoatch stated, “A good tool or software platform should be simple and scalable.”
Jon Isaacson also shared a valuable tip for restoration business owners looking to expand their services when he said, “If you’re excellent at carpet cleaning, most restoration companies focus on just carpet cleaning, so there may be a real opportunity for you to expand your services with a minimal output of resources by just reaching out to local contractors and mitigation contracts and asking to do their final cleans in exchange for teaming up to expand the services you can provide to customers.”
When discussing the value of data and documentation, Jeremy Reets added, “If you’re doing mitigation and you find that, during negotiation with insurance companies—and this is a high number—you’re giving more than 10% of your invoices back on average, you’re not doing it right. And, if you’re not calculating these things, if you’re not telling me right now what percentage you gave back last month, you better start tracking that and your other analytics today to improve your documentation.”
