Bettina Gelineau: Behind the Exam Desk at the IICRC

Bettina Gelineau

Every certification a restoration or cleaning technician earns through the IICRC passes through a small team working behind the scenes to make sure exams run smoothly and scores land in registrants’ inboxes without delay.

Bettina Gelineau, known to colleagues simply as “B,” is the IICRC’s exams lead—and one of the first voices technicians and school administrators hear when they have a question.

In this Q&A episode of Unscripted, an IICRC video production, learn about her role, what it takes to keep exam operations on track, and how she unwinds on a typical Saturday night.

What does a normal workday look like for you?

A typical day is a lot of answering emails, setting up people’s exams, scoring things, and supporting our exams ERCs [Exam Response Center staff] with anything that they need, and of course providing support to my exam supervisor.

What is important about your role?

I’m the first line of communication a lot of times—for emails, especially from school admins and emails from technicians who need help,” Gelineau said. So I am kind of the first person to get those inquiries answered and also making sure that everything is running smoothly so that our registrants can get their exam scores as quickly as possible, so that they know they’ve passed.

What does a typical Saturday night look like for you?

On a Saturday night, I am usually curled up with a book, with something playing on my TV, and probably my laptop at the same time, because I need all of the data streams and all of the mental input at the same time. But the book is the main focus.

A shout-out to the team

I wouldn’t be able to make it through the day without our wonderful ERCs. They are the ones who are doing all the hard work—they’re answering the phones, taking emails, some of them work on chats, and they’re running payments. They’re doing all of the hard work, and I could not do it without them.
