ROSEMONT, Ill.—November 18, 2021—No one would claim that hiring and keeping employees is easy. For carpet cleaning and restoration companies, it is the most often cited challenge each year in benchmarking surveys. But as we emerge from the pandemic, people are quitting their jobs in droves in what has been dubbed the “Great Resignation.” A record 4.3 million people quit their jobs in August, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and that trend is continuing. Businesses are now searching for workers in an already tight labor market, as much of the labor force has simply not returned post-pandemic.

Employee expectations from employees of higher wages, more benefits, and more flexibility are causing many small businesses to look for new ways to draw in employees and keep them. But there are many people searching for jobs. The Bureau of Labor and Statistic’s October report found 6 million people who are unemployed but looking for a job.

Are you struggling more than ever with labor issues, or are you unaffected by the labor shortage and Great Resignation?
