The industry loses a veteran

Candle and flame

SOUTHFIELD, MI — Stephen Hagopian, a Detroit-area carpet and restoration veteran of more than 50 years, passed away on October 1 in Arizona.

After high school, Hagopian attended the University of Michigan, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and then joined the Marines.

Hagopian started his carpet and rug cleaning company in 1969 and expanded with a new carpet cleaning, stain removal and carpet/ upholstery restoration company in 1976, both of which are still in operation.

Considered an expert in stain removal and carpet cleaning by the National Institute of Rug Cleaners, Hagopian held a love of fine rugs and tapestries that was evidenced in his work.

A private funeral service was held on October 13 at St. John’s Armenian Church in Southfield, MI.
