LAS VEGAS — The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) recently released its August 2016 Journal of Cleaning, Restoration & Inspection, according to a press release.

The new issue, available online, offers peer-reviewed technical articles for industry professionals.

Within the journal, readers will find article topics ranging from science and health innovations in air and water quality, unintended consequences of drying in place and more.

Peer-reviewed technical articles in the August 2016 Journal include:

  • Water, Air, Environmental Science & Health, by Michael A. Berry, Ph.D. The author examines the fundamental aspects of environmental science: air and water quality.
  • Physical Changes and Chemical Reactions: A Look Into the Different Forms of Chemistry in Cleaning, by James B. Smith. Chemistry’s important but often misunderstood role in cleaning is examined.
  • Concerns Over the State of the Water Damage Restoration Industry, by Cliff Zlotnik. This first of two related papers critically examines the scientific underpinnings of the common practice of in-place drying, as well as the wisdom of prescriptive industry standards, especially the ANSI/IICRC S500.
  • Unintended Consequences: In-Place Drying and the ANSI/IICRC S500, by Ken Larsen, CR, WLS, CSDS. This paper, related to the prior one, looks at the evolution of restoration practices and how they have been reflected in the ANSI/IICRC S500 and certification exams.
