Training service for disabled buys cleaning company

OTTAWA, KS — COF Training Services Inc., which aids the intellectually and developmentally disabled, recently acquired Stan’s Cleaning Service, a carpet cleaning, restoration and janitorial company of Ottawa, according to an article from the Ottawa Herald.

Stan Shisler, who founded Stan’s Cleaning in 1977, will work in an advisory capacity for several months. “I’ve already got a couple of janitorial office cleaning jobs for people, and I’ve had some people out on the truck with me, helping move hoses and furniture,” Shisler said in the article.

COF will use the acquisition to place intellectually and developmentally disabled people from three counties in in full time jobs with the cleaning company in both its carpet cleaning and janitorial positions.

“We look for smaller companies [in which] the owner’s retiring and is willing to stay on and teach us how to do it,” COF CEO Christopher Patton said. “It’s little pieces of the puzzle we’re trying to piece together. We have well over 100 people, and one earned income hour at a time we are trying to get these people as close to 30 or 40 hours [per week] as possible. These are great people, and the more money they can earn the less they have to rely on government subsidies, and that lowers the burden on taxpayers.”
