LAS VEGAS—February 16, 2021—The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) will now offer a new Contents Processing Technician (CPT) certification. The CPT certification covers the best practices of contents recovery and processing based on available technology and resources. Topics include the restoration of contents subjected to various sources of contamination as well as inspection, inventorying, wrapping, packing, transport, cleaning science, deodorizing, post-cleaning evaluation, storage, and pack back principles (chain of custody).

“The CPT certification course fits a very specialized, but much needed niche in the IICRC certification categories,” said Jessika James-Goern, CPT technical advisory committee chair.  “As the contents recovery and processing industry grows and advances, our Certified Firms and registrants must have the appropriate education available to work with the high expectations of insurance companies and customers in this highly profitable area of restoration and preservation.”

Upon achieving certification, technicians will be prepared to work as efficient and effective parts of a contents recovery team and have the essential knowledge to perform and document typical residential or commercial restoration projects involving contents processing from start to finish. They will also be ready to accomplish further education in other IICRC certifications and courses involving specialized training, such as the Upholstery and Fabric Cleaning Technician (UFT), Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT), and Rug Cleaning Technician (RCT) certifications.

“The CPT committee was a well-rounded, well-balanced team with subject matter specialists in a variety of related areas that were able to create a course that will give the student the essential knowledge needed to work on a variety of contents recovery and processing projects,” James-Goern said. “I would like to thank the awesome team who dedicated many years and their expert knowledge to the creation of the new IICRC CPT course, including Vice-Chair James Tole, Rudy Alford, Mark Drury, Kim Kelley, Josh Miller, Ken Sellers, and Jason Twigg—we did it!”
