Las Vegas — The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) recently announced James R. Carfield the winner of the Keith Williams Award, which honors individuals who have made significant technical contributions to the inspection, cleaning and restoration industry, according to a press release.

“We are pleased to name Jim Carfield as the 2016 Keith Williams Award winner,” IICRC Chairman of the Board Peter Duncanson said in the release. “With his continuous contributions to the inspection, cleaning and restoration industries, Jim has provided valuable input, leadership and insight to the IICRC and its members.”

In the early 1970s, Carfield founded JR Flooring, a diversified cleaning, restoration, retail floor covering and installation business. He grew his company from just two vehicles to a multi-vehicle, multi-crew operation. After retiring from his company in 2015, Carfield has continued to devote his expert knowledge to the industry.

Carfield’s expertise and experience has benefited numerous IICRC training and education programs, and the development of installation and inspection standards. Early in his IICRC involvement, Carfield assisted in updating the newly formed Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician (RRT) course syllabus and exam. He helped take RRT instruction to the next level by building a demonstration platform and providing carpet, cushion, moldings and tools for hands-on demonstration of installation techniques. Most recently, Carfield provided valuable input on the BSR S600 installation standard and the ANSI/IICRC S800 inspection standard.

Having served as chair of the RRT Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), Carfield also has authored many technical articles, worked with the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) in developing the original CRI 104 and 105 residential and commercial installation standards.  He has traveled to Dalton, Georgia on multiple occasions to represent the IICRC in its manufacturer liaison seminars. Carfield has been an active member of the Society of Cleaning and Restoration Technicians since the 1980s, having served as “official auctioneer” in raising thousands of dollars for the non-profit association.

Carfield will be presented with the Keith Williams Award at the IICRC’s fall meetings.  For more information about the IICRC, visit https://www.iicrc.org.
