DALTON, GA — The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) recently announced its newly established stewardship program with Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), according to FloorDaily.com

"Our members are participating voluntarily as part of our government relations activities, and have committed $4.5 million for the program's initial year," CRI board Chairman Dan Frierson said in the organization's release. "The [program] will be a bridge for sorters as new technologies and applications are developed to increase market driven demand for all post-consumer carpet."

CRI, through this program, will help CARE with its efforts to keep post-consumer carpet from overcrowding U.S. landfills.

The stewardship program provides financial assitance to post-consumer sorters of carpet and looks to accept all "post-consumer carpet, regardless of polymer type or primary materilas or construction."

Funding will be used by sorters to recyle into new consumer products.

The program is will begin in January 2015.
