Another slow hurricane season predicted

STATE COLLEGE, PA — The National Hurricane Center predicted only eight named storms, four hurricanes and one major hurricane during the Atlantic hurricane season, and AccuWeather.com predicts only two to three of these systems will make landfall, according to the latter’s website.

Despite the light storm season prediction, the season kicked off early, with Tropical Storm Ana appearing in early May, though the season doesn’t officially begin until June 1.

According to Meteorologist Dan Kottlowski, this year’s conditions “are somewhat similar to last year,” which, as many will remember, resulted in very little activity, with “only one named storm, Hurricane Arthur, hit[ting] the U.S.

However, in the article Kottlowski urges people to remember, “Just because this season’s numbers are low, it doesn’t mean that people should let their guard down. It only takes one storm to cause a lot of destruction.” Disaster restoration professionals should stand ready for the season and monitor hurricane activity from now until the end season’s end November 30.
